Lower Elementary (1-2)
BIBLE - Each school day begins with Bible class, a fun time of singing Bible songs and learning Bible stories. Weekly Chapel times are scheduled for 5K – 2nd grade that provide students with the privilege of hearing wonderful, age-appropriate speakers that bring the Bible to life. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend with their student.
READING - Your child’s future academic success depends upon a solid foundation. CCA is equipped to provide a learning program with proven academic results. The instructional program for Grades 1-6 continues the educational foundation which was begun on the kindergarten level. CCA’s outstanding reading program has a strong, systematic phonetic approach with an emphasis on reading comprehension. It builds independent, confident reading. The experienced faculty combines the strong phonetic approach of the A Beka Book curriculum with the outstanding reading comprehension aspect of the BJ Press reading texts and workbooks to blend both important components for the early reader.
ARITHMETIC - Arithmetic concepts are taught using the distinguished A Beka Curriculum and provide foundational memorization of key facts necessary for upper level math concepts. Second graders are always eager to begin learning their multiplication facts. The curriculum provides continuous practice in place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, money, temperature, time, perimeter, story problems, estimation, rounding, graphs, the ruler, and English and metric measures building on new information in each grade level. Accuracy and speed are important components of lower elementary arithmetic.
LANGUAGE ARTS -Studies in language arts include spelling, grammar, punctuation, and writing skills. Initially these are included as a part of the overall reading program and gradually increase into independent topics. 1st graders begin short writing assignments with the aid of their teacher. 2nd graders produce a short book report and illustrative project in the spring.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION - Students practice the skills necessary to succeed in the Presidential Fitness Program. The Physical Fitness Test recognizes students for their level of physical fitness in 5 events: curl-ups or partial curl-ups, shuttle run, endurance run/walk, pull-ups or right angle push-ups, and V-sit or sit and reach. The Physical Fitness Test offers three awards for students who meet the program qualifications.
